HDI is an important indicator to measure success in efforts to build the quality of human life. HDI is a strategic data because in addition to being a measure of Government performance, HDI is also used as one of the allocators for determining the General Allocation Fund (DAU).
IPM explains how residents can access the results of development in obtaining income, health, education, and so on. In 2019, the Sangihe Islands HDI reached 70.53 so that it was included in the High HDI category.
HDI is formed by 3 basic dimensions: Long life and healthy living, Knowledge, and a decent standard of living.
The dimensions of longevity and healthy living are represented by Life Expectancy at birth (UHH). SangHe Islands UHH in 2019 amounted to 69.96 years which means that newborns in 2019 are expected to survive until the age of 69.96 years. The UHH value has increased compared to 2018 which amounted to 69.60 years. This shows that newborn babies have hope for a longer life.
The knowledge dimension is represented by Average Length of School (RLS) and Expectation of School Length (HLS). RLS is the average number of years (years) of people aged 25 years and over who have / are undergoing formal education. Sangihe Islands RLS in 2019 is 8.04 years. This means that Sangihe Islands residents aged 25 years and over take an average of 8.04 years of schooling or have completed class VIII. Besides RLS, HLS in 2019 also increased to 12.31 years from 2018 which amounted to 12.04 years. The average 7 year olds who start school are estimated to have education up to 12.31 years (equivalent to class XII or high school graduation).
The dimension of an adequate standard of living is a presentation of welfare represented by an adjusted per capita expenditure indicator, which is determined by the value of expenditure per capita and purchasing power parity. Per capita expenditure per year in the Sangihe Islands in 2019 is calculated at 11.66 million rupiah, an increase from the previous year which was 11.40 million rupiah.
Human Development in the Sangihe Islands has continued to show positive developments since 2010. Within a period of nine years, the HDI of the Sangihe Islands has increased by 5.84 points with an average increase of 0.97 percent per year. This development generally shows the improvement in human development in the Sangihe Islands.
